BPI-CPMD Conducted a Field Validation and Monitoring Through Community-Focused Approach To Pest Management and Agricultural Sustainability in Region Mimaropa

The team traveled to Region MIMAROPA to address pest and disease issues affecting high-value crops, specifically onion and corn, focusing on improving pest management practices. They visited three municipalities: Magsaysay, Sablayan, and Bulalacao.

In Magsaysay, the team identified challenges in areas with severe infestations, with some farmers harvesting prematurely to avoid pest infestations and citing late planting as a contributing factor.

Light trapping was discussed as a potential pest control method. Moreover, the team also discussed the roles of BPI-CPMD with regards to pest management strategies and highlighted the possible impact of excessive use of chemicals.
