The Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) and the DA-National Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture Program (DA-NUPAP) join the first-ever Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Expo 2024 with the theme “Opening Market Opportunities for Farmers and Fisherfolk” at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Tent in Pasay City.
July of last year, various government agencies signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to establish the KNP program in the country including the DA, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Presidential Communications Office (PCO), and the Presidential Management Staff.
The Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Program is a flagship initiative of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. aimed at bridging the gap between farmers, fisherfolk, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and consumers by enhancing access to affordable, safe food, high-quality, and affordable products.
DA Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness, Marketing and Consumer Affairs, Atty. Genevieve E. Velicaria-Guevarra presented the KNP’s achievements since its implementation. She also highlighted the success of Rice-for-All and P29 projects that offer affordable rice to marginalized sectors. The DA has partnered with other government agencies like the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Philippine Postal Corporation to expand the program and reach more Filipinos across the country.
The KNP Expo 2024 aims to highlight the success of the KNP program, showcasing various Kadiwa models and initiatives designed to improve the agrifood system in the Philippines such as the Kadiwa Centers, Kadiwa on Wheels or the mobile Kadiwa Stores, Kadiwa Digital App, and Food Hubs.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. and key officials from partner agencies led the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Sec Kiko underscored the DA’s commitment to improving the Kadiwa program, aiming to extend its benefits to more Filipinos. He also emphasized that through collaborative efforts, the country can develop a food system that is both sustainable and equitable. “By working together, we can ensure that every Filipino has access to nutritious and affordable food,” the Secretary stated.
The three-day event houses a variety of booths showcasing agricultural products, processed foods, handicrafts, and handmade decor from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) exhibitors. There will also be a cooking demo featuring local products, agribusiness investment forums, and more.
The DA-BPI and NUPAP booth will provide free seeds, seedlings, IEC materials, and technical assistance for plant enthusiasts visiting our booth.
The KNP Expo 2024 is open until November 28, 2024.
