12 Vehicles Now Ready for NPQSD’s Agricultural Protection and Biosecurity Operations

The Bureau of Plant Industry’s National Plant Quarantine Services Division (BPI-NPQSD) welcomed 12 newly acquired vehicles into official service on May 6, 2025. A significant milestone that enhances the Division’s operational capacity to safeguard Philippine agriculture and natural resources from the threat of plant pests and diseases.

These vehicles are part of President Bongbong Marcos’s ongoing support for Philippine agriculture, aimed at fostering a safer and more resilient agricultural landscape. His administration’s programs continue to empower the NPQSD’s vital work in protecting the sector. Moreover, this also perfectly aligns with DA Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. directive towards “Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya” which resonates even more deeply in today’s complex and fast-changing world. Together, these efforts reflect a shared vision of progress where strong institutions and empowered staffs drive lasting growth in the agriculture sector.

The blessing and turnover ceremony was graced by the presence of Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Ph.D., Assistant Director Herminigilda A. Gabertan, Ph.D., and NPQSD staff members led by Ms. Joan May R. Tolentino.

Director Glenn reminisced about earlier years when only a few vehicles were available for operations. ‘This is not an individual effort,’ he said. ‘It is a collective achievement made by all of us. ’
He also reminded the team to take care of the vehicles, recognizing them as vital tools that support their daily work and livelihoods, and emphasized the importance of driving safely and responsibly.

With the addition of these vehicles, the NPQSD is now better equipped to expand its mobility and reach, allowing for more efficient and timely field inspections, surveillance activities, and rapid response efforts across all regions.

This investment reflects the bureau’s continued commitment to strengthening biosecurity infrastructure and supporting the tireless efforts of its plant quarantine officers.

NPQSD deeply appreciates the invaluable contributions of all its partners, stakeholders, and government agencies in making this achievement a reality. Looking ahead, the vehicles entrusted to them will be handled with utmost care and diligence by their dedicated staff as they perform their essential functions within the Bureau of Plant Industry.
