Market Monitoring

Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. and Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) officials, in collaboration with Department of Trade Industry (DTI) Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguera-Roque, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, conducted a market monitoring and visited one of the grocery stores in Commonwealth Market, Quezon City. The activity aims to check the prices of essential agricultural commodities, including fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish.

Market monitoring is part of the DA’s mandate to ensure food safety in the Philippines. Also present at the event was the first-ever mobile laboratory in the country, which demonstrated the Bureau’s commitment to staying at the forefront of agricultural advancements in food safety testing and management. The mobile laboratory conducted on-the-spot sampling to assess the quality and food safety of vegetables sold at the Commonwealth Market.
