Employees of the Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) showcased their athletic skills during the recent Sports Fest organized by the DAEA BPI Chapter, which was launched on November 14, 2024. The two-month-long event culminated on January 14-15, 2025, with championship matches, where the Administrative Division team emerged as the overall champions, securing first place in both volleyball and basketball. The awarding ceremony was held on January 22, 2025, during BPI’s Fellowship Night.
On January 24, selected players from the Department of Agriculture and the BPI team competed in a basketball exhibition game. In a closely contested match, BPI triumphed on their home court with a narrow 114-113 victory. With BPI Director Glenn F. Panganiban serving as Head Coach of the team.
Among the featured games was the introduction of pickleball, a rapidly growing sport gaining popularity in the sports arena. This new addition to the lineup attracted significant interest and enthusiastic participation from employees. The fast-paced and engaging nature of pickleball encouraged many to try something new, making it a promising addition to future sports events at the Bureau.
These games were part of the celebration of BPI’s 95th Anniversary, held under the theme “Innovating for Climate Resiliency Towards Food and Nutrition Security.” By fostering camaraderie and physical activity, the Sports Fest also promoted a healthier work-life balance, aligning with the organization’s commitment to employee well-being and resilience.
