Department of Agriculture Secretary Francisco P. Tiu Laurel, Jr., together with BPI Director Dr. Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, led the celebration of the DA-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) 95th Anniversary, themed “THRIVE @ 95: Innovating for Climate Resiliency Towards Food and Nutrition Security,” held at BPI Malate, Manila on January 22, 2025.
Sec. Kiko warmly greeted everyone and congratulated the BPI. “The Bureau has faced challenges, embraced change, and remained steadfast. Today, it stands as a vital branch of our agricultural tree -supporting farmers, protecting crops, and ensuring food security for millions of Filipinos.” Sec Kiko said.
Director Panganiban reaffirmed the Bureau’s dedication to addressing the challenges posed by climate change and ensuring the nation’s food security.
BPI Centers and Divisions showcased their latest technologies and accomplishments through exhibits, highlighting their contributions to agricultural innovation and development.
The Research and Development Agenda (R&D) (2025-2030), Common Urban and Peri-Urban Crop Pests and Diseases Management Guide, and Information and Communication Technology System for the Implementation of New Rice Tariffication Law were launched. Sec Kiko also led the inauguration of the Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) Facility and Crop Research and Production Support (CRPS-PGR) Building.
To further engage participants, an open house was organized, allowing attendees to explore various facilities and visit stalls selling agricultural products, including seeds and farm inputs, fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish, enabling attendees to support local farmers and producers.
The Bureau also took this opportunity to honor retirees and recognize employees for their significant contributions to research, regulatory, and support functions within the organization.
The celebration not only marked a significant event in the BPI’s history but also underscored the unwavering commitment to innovation and resilience in the face of challenges.
