BPI Champions Innovation with the Philippines’ First Indoor Vertical Strawberry Farm

Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) and National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (DA-NUPAP) Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Ph.D. led the inauguration of the country’s first indoor vertical strawberry farm, a breakthrough in technology-driven urban farming.

This state-of-the-art facility uses advanced controlled environment agriculture to produce premium strawberries year-round, maximizing limited urban spaces while ensuring sustainability.

This milestone demonstrates BPI’s commitment to modernizing agriculture and collaboration with private organizations by supporting high-value crops, encouraging innovation, and attracting younger generations to agribusiness.

“This initiative showcases how technology can revolutionize agriculture, addressing food security while creating profitable opportunities,” Dr. Panganiban said. He envisions this farm inspiring similar projects nationwide, advancing urban agriculture and sustainability.
