Community-Based Seminar-Training on Urban Agriculture and Agri-Education, for the urban farmers, senior citizens, and residents of North Fairview, Quezon City

The Department of Agriculture- National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (DA-NUPAP) conducted a lecture and training session on urban agriculture entitled ‘Community-Based Seminar-Training on Urban Agriculture and Agri-Education, for the urban farmers, senior citizens, and residents of North Fairview, Quezon City on December 3, 2024.

The activity was facilitated by the DA-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) through the Crop Research and Production Support Division (BPI-CRPSD), in collaboration with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of North Fairview, Quezon City.
­
The seminar covered a lecture on the role of urban gardens and their impact on the environment, and the community, crop management, and topics like soil preparation, seed germination, harvesting, and seed collection.
­
BPI expert Mr. Clyde Mark Domingo gave a lecture and hands-on training on preparing mixing soil media for germination and transplanting.
The activity allowed participants to engage directly through hands-on experiences that helped them better understand the techniques involved.

Additionally, participants were provided with essential agricultural inputs, including seeds, seedlings, and IEC materials to support their urban farming projects.
­
The initiative aims to empower participants with hands-on knowledge and skills in sustainable urban farming techniques while promoting food security, environmental awareness, and self-sufficiency within the North Fairview community. This aligns with the vision of DA Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. to enhance food production nationwide.
