The Bureau of Plant Industry – National Seed Quality Control Services (BPI-NSQCS) successfully conducted the Information Caravan on Plant Nursery Accreditation of Ornamental Crop Nursery on August 25, 2026, at the Farmer’s Pavilion, BPI-DNCRDPSC, Bago Oshiro, Davao City, in collaboration with the BPI – Davao Center, Plant Quarantine Services Davao, and the Department of Agriculture – RFO XI (DA-RFO XI).

The info caravan was attended by forty-five plant nursery operators from Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, and Davao City; most of the participants were members of the Floriculture Industry of Davao Incorporated (FIDI), headed by President Ms. Evelyn Laviña.

The activity aimed to raise awareness among nursery operators on the importance, requirements, and procedures of Plant Nursery Accreditation, while providing technical knowledge on the proper establishment and management of ornamental crop nurseries and the production of quality planting materials.

The activity formally began with the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Rafael G. Nemenzo, Agriculturist II of BPI-NSQCS XI, on behalf of Ms. Rosalinda P. Aratan, Agricultural Center Chief III of BPI-NSQCS XI. This was followed by the welcoming remarks of Ms. Flor De Hasmin C. Bayo, MPA, the OIC-Center Chief of the BPI – DNCRDPSC, who warmly welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of collaboration in strengthening the ornamental crops sector.

Assistant Director for Regulatory Services and Administration and Concurrent Chief of NSQCS, Ruel C. Gesmundo, delivered the opening message through a video message. Mr. Nemenzo delivered another message from BPI Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Ph.D., emphasizing the Bureau’s continued support in promoting quality planting materials and strengthening plant industry programs. The opening program concluded with the message of Mr. Zabdiel L. Zacarias, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations of DA-RFO XI.

The activities include discussions on:

• Ms. Aurora L. De Guzman, Senior Agriculturist at BPI-NSQCS Central Office, presented the guidelines on ornamental crops nursery accreditation.

• Mr. Ernie Lito Y. Bollosa, Agriculturist II of BPI-CRPSD, covered nursery establishment and management for ornamental crops.

• Mr. Kalif C. Genota, Plant Quarantine Inspector at BPI-PQS Davao, discussed the domestic movement of plants and plant products.

Their sessions gave participants practical guidance on meeting accreditation requirements, improving nursery management, and producing quality planting materials.

Participants also visited the Dayot Plant Nursery in Catalunan Pequeño, Davao City, owned by Emma Dayot, where they witnessed nursery operations and management practices firsthand.

BPI-NSQCS Quezon City extends appreciation to guests, speakers, partner agencies, nursery operators, participants, and facilitators for their support in making this activity a success.
