Led by the Bureau of Plant Industry–Agricultural Engineering Division (BPI-AED), the Training on Climate-Smart Integrated Farming Systems for Urban Agriculture was held on August 25, 2026, at the NSIC Conference Room. The training brought together more than 50 National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP) implementers and beneficiaries from various local government units (LGUs), local universities, state universities, barangays, and government agencies.
In his opening message, Engr. Melvin L. Vista emphasized the importance of adopting a climate-smart approach to ensure that farming systems are not only productive but also resilient and adaptable to the impacts of climate change. He noted that through integrated farming systems, available land, water, nutrients, energy, organic waste, and technology can be combined and utilized more efficiently to develop a more efficient and sustainable production system.
He encouraged the participants to actively participate, share their experiences, and learn from one another. He said that the knowledge and ideas gained from the training could serve as a foundation for developing climate-resilient, resource-efficient, and sustainable urban agriculture systems.
The training featured various learning sessions facilitated by resource persons from the BPI. Topics discussed included:

•NUPAP Forms and Reporting Requirements
•Climate-Smart Urban Gardening Technologies and Propagation
•Integrated Pest Management for Urban Agriculture
•Food Safety in Urban Agriculture
•Proper Maintenance of Urban Agriculture Structures
The training aimed to help participants apply climate-smart practices in their urban agriculture projects and implement these practices within their communities.
