August 4, 2026 – The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) conducted the Climate-Smart Integrated Farming Systems for Urban Agriculture Training in the Director’s Office Conference Room to strengthen the implementation of climate-resilient urban agriculture initiatives under the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP). The activity equipped 42 NUPAP implementers and beneficiaries from local government units (LGUs) and partner institutions with updated technologies and best practices for sustainable urban food production.
The training gathered participants from Region IV-A, including the municipalities and cities of Rodriguez, Rizal; San Pedro, Laguna; and Carmona, Cavite. Representatives from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Central Luzon State University (CLSU) in Region III, and nearby LGUs such as Pasay, Muntinlupa, Makati, Caloocan, Manila, Quezon City, and Taguig also participated in the activity.
Experts from the BPI in the Agricultural Engineering Division (AED), Crop Research and Production Support Division (CRPSD), Crop Pest Management Division (CPMD), and Plant Product Safety Services Division (PPSSD) served as resource speakers. They discussed climate-smart technologies and sustainable farming practices that support resilient and productive urban agriculture systems.
The training covered the following topics:

* NUPAP Forms and Reporting Requirements
* Climate-Smart Urban Gardening Technologies and Plant Propagation
* Proper Maintenance of Urban Agriculture Structures
* Integrated Pest Management for Urban Agriculture
* Food Safety in Urban Agriculture
In her closing message, Division Chief of AED, Engr. Elaiza Nicole S. Dotimas encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills they gained during the training in their respective communities. She also reminded everyone to travel home safely and continue supporting the programs and initiatives of DA-BPI and DA-NUPAP.
The training reinforced the importance of adopting climate-smart technologies and sustainable farming practices to enhance urban food production and strengthen community resilience. Through the continued collaboration of DA-BPI, local government units, and partner institutions, the Bureau aims to help more communities establish productive, safe, and climate-resilient urban agriculture systems that contribute to local food security and sustainable development.
