July 15, 2026 | Officials from the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) welcomed delegates from the Embassy of Peru during a courtesy visit at BPI Malate, Manila. The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both countries to further strengthen bilateral agricultural cooperation and explore opportunities to expand agricultural trade.
DA-BPI Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, PhD, led the discussions with Ms. Joan-May R. Tolentino and Ms. Ellaine T. Molon from the BPI-National Plant Quarantine Services Division. The Peruvian delegation was led by Her Excellency Ambassador Carmen Del Rocio Azurin Araujo, accompanied by Counselor Augusto Lamas Godoy and Assistant Ferdinand Sy Jr.
The meeting focused on enhancing agricultural trade and addressing technical issues. Both delegations exchanged updates on ongoing trade initiatives and discussed plans to explore opportunities to harmonize phytosanitary measures to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of agricultural commodities between the two countries.
Aside from agricultural trade, they discussed mutual development through triangular cooperation and capacity building to strengthen institutional capabilities and promote knowledge exchange in the agricultural sector.
The BPI officials and Peruvian delegates expressed optimism that these collaborative efforts will pave the way for more trade opportunities and a mutually beneficial partnership that contributes to agricultural development in both countries.
