The Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) joins key government agencies, scientific experts, industry representatives, and international partners in the “Advancing Agricultural Innovation: Exploring Data Transportability in Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of Genetically Modified (GM) Crops in the Philippines” held on July 15, 2026, at Acacia Hotel Manila, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The forum serves as a platform to deepen discussions on the concept of data transportability in the environmental risk assessment of genetically modified crops, highlighting its scientific basis, international experiences, and potential role in strengthening the country’s biosafety regulatory framework while ensuring the protection of human health, biodiversity, and the environment.
The activity features experts from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Bureau of Plant Industry Biotechnology Office, the Agriculture and Food Systems Institute (AFSI), CropLife International, as well as resource persons from Argentina and Paraguay, who share global perspectives and best practices on data transportability in biosafety assessments.
BPI Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban delivered the opening remarks, reaffirming the Bureau’s commitment to fostering science-based, transparent, and evidence-driven regulatory systems that support agricultural innovation while upholding biosafety standards.
Through initiatives such as this, the Bureau continues to strengthen collaboration among government, the scientific community, and stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural development and ensure that agricultural innovations are guided by sound science and responsible governance.
