The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), through its Crop Research and Production Support Division (CRPSD), in partnership with the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), and the DA Regional Field Offices (DA-RFOs), successfully conducted two batches of the Season-Long Training on Hybrid Rice Seed Production and Certification in Regions II and V for aspiring seed growers.
The five-day training enhanced the participants’ knowledge and skills in hybrid rice seed production, seed certification, crop and pest management, and farm planning. This will be followed by a 13-week field practicum, where participants will apply each stage of producing high-quality hybrid rice seeds through hands-on field experience.
Through continuous mentoring and practical field training, more seed growers are expected to become equipped to produce high-quality hybrid rice seeds. As the number of qualified seed growers increases, more farmers will gain access to certified hybrid rice seeds, contributing to higher rice productivity across the country.
A step toward producing more quality seeds, achieving better harvests, and strengthening the nation’s food security.
