Fulfilling its mission to safeguard plant food and support the export sector through proactive biosecurity, the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) – Plant Quarantine Service Iloilo—in tandem with BPI-Guimaras NCRDPSC, BPI-NSQCS Iloilo, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and Kokomojo Mango Farm—successfully facilitated the export of 100 kilograms of fresh Guimaras mangoes to Hong Kong. This milestone shipment serves as the “Guimaras Mango Test Market Shipment Logistics Feasibility Assessment” and is strategically timed for the upcoming 2026 Philippine Independence Day celebrations. To ensure strict compliance with international standards, a rigorous phytosanitary inspection was conducted to verify that the fruits are entirely free from pests and diseases. This critical inspection was personally led and monitored by three key agency heads: Ms. Arlene Pernia, Regional Manager of the BPI-Plant Quarantine Service Iloilo; Mr. Sixto Cabila, Center Chief of the BPI-NSQCS Iloilo; and Mr. Yondre J. Yonder, Center Chief of the BPI-Guimaras NCRDPSC. This successful collaborative effort not only underscores the BPI’s dedication to safeguarding agricultural quality but also marks a significant step forward in bringing the world-class sweetness of Guimaras mangoes to the global market.
