The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), in partnership with Denso AgriTech and the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC), led the relaunching of the Luneta Urban Garden through the event “Cultivating the Future: Smart Innovations in Smart Agriculture,” held at the Rizal Park Urban Garden in Burnham Green, Western Section of Luneta, on May 5, 2026.
The activity focused on technology-driven urban farming practices and strengthened public–private partnerships to advance food security, with lessons directly intended for application in the management and development of the Luneta Urban Garden. Participants gained hands-on skills from educational demonstrations and received free seedlings and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials to encourage local urban agriculture initiatives.
The event was attended by DA Under Secretary for High-Value Crops Cheryl Marie Natividad-Caballero, MTM; BPI Director Gerald Glenn F. Panganiban, Ph.D.; NPDC Executive Director III Cecille A. Lorenzana-Romero; and DENSO Philippines Corporation President Yuji Torii, along with representatives from the National Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Program (NUPAP), the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), and representatives from the BPI.
The Luneta Urban Garden will serve as a model site for urban farming and learning in a public space while helping nearby communities gain better access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities for urban agriculture. Moving forward, the BPI continues to support initiatives that advance these priorities and promote sustainable agriculture.
