Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga | In joint initiative, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has officially turned over its Tissue Culture Laboratory to the Department of Agriculture (DA), in partnership with the Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI), formalizing a strategic partnership to advance agricultural innovation located along Jose Abad Santos Avenue, Clark Freeport Zone, Pampanga on December 1, 2025.
This initiative is a key component of the DA through the BPI in partnership with the CDC for the Zero Kilometer Food System Strategy, which will launch the Retrofitting of the Existing Tissue Culture Laboratory and Nursery Establishment for the mass production of disease-free plantlets of banana, ube, and cassava, and to serve as a shared facility for Agri-Innovation. Based on initial assessments, specific modifications will be implemented to ensure the laboratory meets stringent minimum requirements for an aseptic and fully functional tissue culture operation. The facility will also provide essential support for the Mango Rejuvenation Program and Urban Agriculture Program.
To ensure the continuous propagation and high survival rates of the delicate plantlets, complementary nursery facilities will be developed. This includes the area surrounding the laboratory and up to 3 hectares at the CDC Eco Park. A crucial part of this development is the construction of a Screenhouse facility, which will serve as a controlled-environment structure for the essential hardening and acclimatization of tissue-cultured plantlets before their transfer to the field.
Aside from producing high-quality planting materials, the program is specifically focused on providing livelihood support to Indigenous Peoples, cooperatives, and community groups within CFZ.
