The Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) once again sweetened the knowledge of farmers through a Package of Technology (POT) Training under the Mango Rehabilitation Program, held in the province of Isabela on November 5–6, 2025. The training was attended by 52 participants from various towns, cooperatives, and associations in the province.

The program also highlighted the presence of Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino, Regional Executive Director of DA–Regional Field Office II, who personally attended the training. She shared her message of support and opened opportunities for participants to express their actual needs in mango production — from lack of facilities to the training programs they wish to learn more about, in order to further develop and enrich the mango industry in Isabela and promote Isabela mango not only in the Philippines but also abroad.

Over the two-day session, experts from BPI-CRPSD, BPI-Guimaras, BPI-PPSSD Baguio, and BPI-PQS II expanded the participants’ knowledge on the proper management of old mango trees to make them fruitful and productive again. Through practical and hands-on activities, participants were taught the proper use of seeds and seedlings for establishing nurseries, a step that can help in the production and sale of high-quality grafted seedlings as an additional source of income.

The technology of intercropping was also discussed, where farmers plant cash crops and leguminous crops between mango trees. Aside from making the most efficient use of land, this practice provides additional income while keeping the soil fertile and the plants healthy.

Overall, the training aims to strengthen the capability of farmers and cooperatives in Isabela in adopting modern technologies in mango production. Through this, they are empowered to increase yield, improve production quality, and generate additional livelihood opportunities, contributing to the stability and growth of the mango industry in the region.
