In our continued commitment to ensuring food safety and strengthening agricultural standards, the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) through the BPI-Plant Product Safety Services Division (BPI-PPSSD) recently deployed its Mobile Plant Food Safety Laboratory to Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte. The initiative was carried out in close coordination with the DA–Regional Field Office V (DA-RFO V) and the Offices of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) at Camarines Norte.
The BPI Mobile Food Safety Laboratory served as an on-site analytical hub during the PhilGAP (Philippine Good Agricultural Practices) inspection of several farms. Equipped with tools for food safety testing, the laboratory facilitated timely analysis of pesticide residues, contaminants, and microbiological analysis. PhilGAP inspection ensures food safety parameters are met right at the farm level, bridging the gap between compliance and convenience for our hardworking farmers.
This inter-agency activity, involving BPI, DA RFO V, and the Provincial Governments of Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte, aims to promote good agricultural practices through PhilGAP Certification and increase food safety awareness among farmers and consumers. Through teamwork and technology, we take one step closer to a safer and more competitive Philippine agriculture.
The future of farming is mobile, modern, and mindful—and the BPI and PPSD is proud to lead the way.
