The Bureau of Plant Industry – Plant Quarantine Station Region XIII – PQS Caraga inspectors intercepted two thousand (2000) pieces of banana plants and seventy (70) pieces of jackfruit seedlings with soil as planting media at the Lipata Ferry Terminal in Surigao City.
The plants, found in a 10-wheeler truck, do not have the necessary Clearance for Domestic Transport (CDT), which is an essential requirement to prevent the spread of harmful plant pests and diseases, specifically Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense Tropical Race 4 (FocTr4). In addition, the intercepted cargo is classified as prohibited and regulated planting materials under BPI Special Quarantine Order No. 1, series of 2019. With the owner’s cooperation, the plants were voluntarily offloaded and returned to origin.
