The Bureau of Plant Industry (DA-BPI) has been recommended for the issuance of its ISO 9001:2015 recertification following a successful two-month audit conducted by TÜV SÜD Philippines from March 6 to May 8, 2025.
The audit revealed a strong implementation of the Bureau’s quality management system, with no major non-conformities found. Only a few minor non-conformities and opportunities for improvement were identified, for which the issuance of the certificate has been recommended, pending submission of the corresponding corrective action plans.
BPI was first certified in 2022 for its offices in Quezon City, Baguio, Los Banos and the Central Office in Manila. In 2024, a certification audit was expanded to 14 sites and a surveillance audit for the initially certified sites. This latest audit marks a significant milestone as all 18 BPI offices are now included under the ISO 9001:2015 certification. Sites include the Central Office and Laboratories in Quezon City, the five National Crop Research and Development Centers; National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) Laboratories in Iloilo., Baguio, Laguna, La Granja , Davao; Plant Quarantine Services Stations in Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, CPEQS, the Satellite Pesticide Analytical Laboratories (SPAL) in Baguio and Davao.
This recent audit sought to verify compliance with management system standards, assess the effectiveness of implementation, and identify areas for continual improvement.
The positive outcome of this recertification effort underscores BPI’s commitment to quality, transparency, and accountability in all its operations. As the Bureau moves forward, it remains focused on strengthening internal processes and delivering reliable services in support of Philippine agriculture.
This commitment to quality mirrors the guiding principle of DA Secretary Francisco “Kiko” Tiu Laurel Jr. : “Masaganang Agrikultura, Maunlad na Ekonomiya”. This further supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to institutionalize quality management systems and streamline government functions to ensure efficient public service delivery.
